The Be Nice Halter is an excellent and humane training device imported from America. The design is patented and although there have been some imitations manufactured, nothing else is as effective.
Why the Be Nice Halter? When you are handling your horse, you are not always in a training situation, whether using a hot-walker, lunging, ponying, leading or tying. If you do your everyday handling with the Be Nice Halter, you are in better control at all times. You can correct and discipline in an instant, so that your animal will never develop any bad habits.
The halter works on the simple principle that when the horse resists, pressure is automatically applied and when the animal begins to co-operate, the pressure is automatically released. Therefore, it is not just a restraint, but a very effective training device as well.
- the Be Nice Halter is constructed from braid-on-braid nylon/dacron rope.
- the rings and side buckle are made of cast bronze.
- the slide is of a high-tensile moulded nylon.
- we have great confidence in the materials and workmanship of the Be Nice Halter.
What is the difference between the 'be Nice Halter' and a standard 'Rope Halter'?
The 'Be Nice' is a pressure halter which closes close on the horse's head when it pulls against you, thereby punishing the wrong behaviour with a pressure greater than the horse exerted into the halter. The horse learns not to run into this pressure, and therefore yields. A standard 'Rope Halter', however, has no closing action so if the horse pulls against it, it will get its own pressure back - so not really a punishment - more a consequence. The rope is thinner than a conventional halter, so it exerts a more concentrated pressure if the horse leans on it. The 'Be Nice' is designed more with preventing undesirable behaviour whilst the rope halter has more emphasis on refined communication.
The halter comes in the following US sizes:
- S - Yearling/Large Pony
- M - Arab/Cob
- L - Average Horse
- XL - Large Horse
- XXL - Warmblood
US Sizes are very small and you will require on average one size larger i.e L will fit Cob whilst XL will fit most standard horses.
PLEASE TAKE A MEASUREMENT TO CONFIRM THE SIZE YOUR HORSE REQUIRES!
To determine the proper size you will need to measure the horse. Starting at about 1 1/2 inches below the check bone, up over the poll and down the other side of the head about 1 1/2 inches below the other check bone.
Small - 32" Medium - 34" Large - 36" X-Large - 38" XXL-Large - 40"
